President Donald Trump took a swipe Sunday morning at Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski, who is perceived as one of the GOP senators most likely to vote against Trump’s Supreme Court pick in coming weeks.
Trump picked up a tweet from the Alaska Chamber of Commerce promoting an upcoming event with Murkowski and retweeted it with an emphatic “No thanks!”
In the day-and-a-half since the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, debate has shifted from her legacy to whether it is appropriate to confirm a replacement in the time before the election. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he fully intends to bring Trump’s nominee to a vote before the election.
The Alaska Republican has not spoken on the issue since Ginsburg‘s death even though last week, she said she would be opposed to such a vote. “I would not vote to confirm a Supreme Court nominee. We are 50 some days away from an election,” she said. Murkowski has not confirmed that she still supports that view.
Murkowski voted against the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh, a Trump nominee, in 2018.
