But this isn’t the first time the U.S. has held an election during a deadly global pandemic. During the so-called 1918 Spanish Influenza, politicians were attempting to campaign and Americans trying to make their voices heard at the ballot box without many of the modern conveniences we have today, like mail-in and absentee voting.
