Former Trump White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is expected to launch her campaign for Arkansas governor on Monday, according to three people familiar with her plans.
Sanders has long been planning to run for governor, and Donald Trump signaled his support for her anticipated bid upon her 2019 departure from the White House.
The news was first reported by the Washington Post.
The 38-year-old Sanders is running to replace Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson, who is term-limited. She enters a 2022 GOP primary field that includes Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin and state Attorney General Leslie Rutledge.
The former Trump aide has a deep history in Arkansas politics: She is the daughter of Mike Huckabee, who served as the state’s governor for more than a decade.
