Federal authorities said on Thursday they were trying to negotiate with a man who parked his truck outside the Library of Congress and made bomb threats while streaming live on Facebook.
At about 9:15 a.m., Capitol police responded to reports of the black pickup truck parked on a sidewalk mere feet from the Capitol and Supreme Court. The driver told police that he had a bomb and a detonator in his hands, prompting the immediate evacuation of surrounding buildings, U.S. Capitol Police Chief J. Thomas Manger said in a media conference.
Law enforcement sources told MSNBC that the driver and claimed to have a propane tank and claimed to be holding a detonator in his hand. Authorities couldn’t seen any explosives in the bed of the truck but haven’t been able to look inside, the network reported.
