CHICAGO — President Barack Obama took the stage here Tuesday night for a farewell speech bound up in convictions about enduring American ideals and a plan for moving toward more change.
“Tonight it’s time for me to say thanks,” Obama told the cheering crowd of supporters, former aides and current White House staff. “You made me a better president. You made me a better man.”
He recounted some of his successes in office, saying they might have once seemed unbelievable, but he did not directly address President-elect Donald Trump, except obliquely, with comments like “for every two steps forward, it often feels like we take one step back.”
