Trump swipes at Gillespie after GOP loss in Virginia

President Donald Trump took a swipe at Ed Gillespie after the Republican lost in the Virginia gubernatorial election on Tuesday.

While acknowledging that Gillespie “worked hard,” Trump tweeted, seemingly from his visit in South Korea, that the candidate did not run as a Trump Republican. Gillespie lost to Democratic Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam in one of Tuesday night’s most watched races.

“Ed Gillespie worked hard but did not embrace me or what I stand for,” Trump wrote in one of his first tweets at the new 280-character limit. “Don’t forget, Republicans won 4 out of 4 House seats, and with the economy doing record numbers, we will continue to win, even bigger than before!”

In the run-up to Tuesday’s vote, Trump tweeted and robo-called his support for Gillespie, a former lobbyist and Republican National Committee chairman. He has also tweeted attacks on Northam.
