House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer will dine with President Donald Trump on Wednesday evening at the White House.
The topics of discussion will include the DREAM Act — a proposal to provide long-term protection for undocumented immigrants who arrived in the country as minors — as well as efforts to stabilize Obamacare health insurance markets and a slew of December fiscal deadlines.
“It’s a continuation of what we should do in December and we’re going to work very hard to get him to be for Dreamers and straightening out healthcare,” Schumer said at the Capitol on Wednesday morning.
Asked whether Trump’s recent overtures to him angered Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, Scuhmer said, “He asked us. We’re going. Those are our two issues.”
It’s the latest in a series of meetings Trump has held with Democrats in recent days, beginning with last week’s leadership huddle that resulted in a deal for a short-term debt ceiling hike.
