Clinton criticizes Trump on hate crimes, travel ban

Written by Lisa

Former secretary of state and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton blasted President Donald Trump Monday on Twitter for not speaking out against a hate crime and for his controversial travel ban executive order.

Clinton said Trump must “step up & speak out” in response to a shooting last week in Olathe, Kansas, where a white man shot two Indian men, one who died, and injured a bystander who tried to intervene. The shooting is being investigated as a hate crime as witnesses said it was racially motivated.

President Trump has previously been criticized for avoiding condemning anti-Semitism when asked about it following a string of anti-Semitic incidents across the country, including the vandalization of Jewish cemeteries. He was also criticized for not publicly, personally addressing the mosque shooting in Canada, although White House press secretary Sean Spicer denounced the shooting during a press briefing.

Clinton also criticized Trump’s travel ban executive order that impacted those from seven Muslim-majority countries. She linked to an AP report that found analysts at the Homeland Security Department found insufficient evidence that citizens of the countries impacted by the ban pose a national security threat.
